It is imperative that I get on track, losing the isolationist attitude. I'm a one man show, but it is going to take more to build my online poker community

Getting myself on Track

A few days ago, I was reading through the affiliate forums at Poker Affiliate Listings. Randy Ray had put up a thread asking what other poker affiliates had set in the lines of goals for the month of May. It occurred to me at that moment, I had several ideas as to what I wanted to accomplish, but I really did not have anything written in stone.

Additionally, I didn’t have anything listed with any urgency. Nothing was really time sensitive. My thoughts were unorganized. I lacked a not only a game plan, without my goals written down, I lacked a scorecard. The May goals thread is helping me get on track. I can’t even say “back on track,” as I’ve been unfocused and quite honestly, I’ve been a mess since returning to the online poker world.

Even when I write, I find myself writing for the search engines. I struggle with my wording, trying to maximize and optimize each post so that it will rank. Realistically, I should just write. Part of the reason for this, I think, is because my site – for lack of a better term – has been poor in content. I’m trying to make up for it by writing a certain way to boost the search results for… nothing.

Poker Content for other websites

The exact depth of my writing style’s problems became blatantly obvious to me when I began work on a strategy article. One of my May goals is to provide content to other poker websites. I know I can write, however, what I’ve been doing here has been anything but writing. Without much effort, I hammered out the article. When I reviewed it, the article flowed, much like my writing does when I’m not shooting for search results. And surprisingly, I remained on topic and would surely receive better results with better content by simply writing, and not trying to over-use catch phrases.

Improving my own content

One of my goals for May, with respect to the Online Poker Circuit is to improve upon my website’s content. I’ll very likely rewrite my strategy articles, in addition to writing some new ones – to keep it fresh. I’ve already given the site a much needed face lift, and am continuing to refocus the purposes and focus of the poker site.

Losing the isolationist attitude

Additionally, I’ve decided that as a one-man-show, I cannot both “wear all the hats” and make this website everything I wish it to be to the extent I want it to be without some outside help. What I mean by that is I want the Online Poker Circuit to be a source for poker tournaments. I’d love to create my own unique script to push out every poker tournament to every room to my site’s visitors. Additionally, I want to house a useful relevant poker tournament strategy library, for my poker website’s guests to reference when trying to learn an important tournament poker concept, to improve their poker play, and to just become better tournament poker players.

I also wish to serve as a main resource for online poker legislation, as well as provide commentary that is poker related, poker news, and everything else. I’m only one person… I realize now that I cannot do everything I’d love to do with the Online Poker Circuit’s website. I can only do so much myself before everything turns to rubbish.

Unfortunately, when I first entered the business, the person who showed me the ropes was more of an isolationist affiliate than a social poker affiliate. He was not keen on a free or somewhat free exchange of ideas. The one thing I have to say though, for what he was doing at the time, he did it pretty well. I bought in to his network and he showed me the ropes – doing things his way.

As with most partnerships, there was a philosophical difference in the way things were done. He had just broke ground on a poker forum, where in theory ideas, thoughts, poker strategy, and general social chatter could be freely exchanged between members. I’d say I made around 1000 posts, which at the time was about 20% of his forum’s posting volume.

If memory serves me correctly, In a strategy thread he was offering poker advice, to which I had questioned – more accurately, I had suggested the playing style he was endorsing was a posture and not a strategy. That part is irrelevant to my thought at the moment though. What is relevant is that he went nuts both in the thread and via email/messenger at my comment. Add to the mix that any post that was not pro-him was immediately deleted, members were banned for speaking out of turn… Which, in all fairness, it was his shop, he can do with it whatever he wants. I was there by choice. That being said, I chose to leave.

The philosophical gap was just too much to fill, from my standpoint. I like hearing opposing, different views. I encourage discussion, rebuttals; things of that sort. I am open minded enough to share and receive ideas from other people – even from my competition. Unfortunately, when I returned to the online poker scene, I did not return with an open mind. No, I didn’t delete off posts like they were the plague or anything in the forum. However, I was closed to the idea that I could help – and be helped by other people in the business.

Even when I joined PAL and PAP – I was open to helping others, I took help when I felt I needed it, but I wasn’t willing to open the doors to anyone else. The flawed logic of it all is that without others assisting me, the vision I have for the Online Poker Circuit will never be achieved. I finally broke down last night and today and installed a script on my home page, designed by someone else to broadcast a list of guaranteed poker tournaments from many of the online poker rooms I tout.

Getting my act together

This week, I am finally open to the idea of either having someone else write for me here at the Online Poker Circuit, or for providing writing and content services to other poker websites. I am committing to no longer reside in isolation. If I want to achieve my goals for this poker site of mine, it is imperative that I get on track, remain on track, and lose the isolationist attitude. I’m a one man show, but it is going to take more than one to build my community.

The first order of business in my quest to clean up the Poker Pub is to do a better job categorizing my posts. Its funny, when I was on the blogger version of the Poker Pub, I would read Bill’s Poker Blog daily. I was relatively new to the blogging world, and an affiliate newbie. I couldn’t help but notice that he had a few things I was apparently after.

First, he had readers – many people visited his blog daily. Second, he had page rank. Again, I was new to this whole online thing – I had no idea what the hell page rank was, how to get it or anything of the sort. However, it seemed to me that he was quite a figure in the Blogosphere.

In any event, I noticed he had these “tag things” at the end of his blog posts. I assumed that one of the reasons he was successful was due to these tags. And of course, sometimes one should take on the behavior of those who are successful in an attempt to also achieve success. As a result, I figured out how to make blogger accept tags. I had to backdate a post and modify the template. It was on the backdated posts that the tags were housed. In a nutshell, I’d make a tag, it would point back to that page and I’d have some sort of organization.

More accurately, I should have had more organization. Around the same time, I was trying to figure out how to gain PageRank. I walked away with the idea that I should stuff keywords into these tags, regardless of whether or not they applied – as they may somehow apply, right? I came up with some other quite crazy notions as well… Anyway, the end result was the mess I have now.

That being said, I’m going to start cleaning up the Poker Pub by reworking the tags, links and category system… And perhaps run a spell check while I’m at it.

I’m going to spend the next few days cleaning up the Poker Pub. When making the move to the Online Poker Circuit, I mentioned I was planning to be a bit more selective in my importation of posts. My plan is to clean up some of the old posts, be it deleting and redirecting, moving them to perhaps a more relivant location, or straight up editing the content.

My belief is that it will allow the readers of the Poker Pub a better experience. Anyone wishing to share past experiences with doing such a thing are welcome to chime in. Additionally, I’m considering a new look for the Poker Pub. I don’t mind the current look, but I’m not really “sold” on it either…

Choose a poker topic, expand on the poker concept or idea. Multi-topic posts on poker are best done as separate posts. Spread the word - Poker Pub Poker Blog

I intended originally to continue my Keys to Winning Poker Tournament series today. However, my internet connection has taken a dive, so I can’t access my notes to construct a smart poker article to contribute to the Keys to Winning Poker Tournaments series of poker strategy discussions. Instead, the drunken rambling topic of the day is Texas Hold em Blogging – more specifically, Texas Hold em Poker Blog Content.

Poker Blog Content Introduction

In case it was not painfully obvious, I am a poker blogger. The Poker Pub is my Poker Blog. My Poker Pub Poker Blog is the central Poker Blog of the Online Poker Circuit. I blog poker for the Online Poker Circuit at the Poker Pub Poker Blog.

Wow, that was painful. Not too much pizazz in that introductory paragraph on Poker Blogging, was there? If I read that, I’d surely have clicked the X in the top right corner of my browser by now, had I not fallen asleep………

The problem with that intro paragraph is, well… Its obvious. I did do one thing properly, however. I had a point and I stressed it. I just did not go about it the right way. Its important to stress a point when blogging poker content, but don’t overdo it like I just did. There are many ways to emphasize a point without repeating it.

More emphasis, less repetitious

During a lecture in college, I had a professor who would repeat everything he deemed “test worthy” right after he said it. It would go something like this:

“I am discussing the topic of poker blog content. I repeat, I am blogging on the topic of poker blog content.”

We would know he wanted us to be aware that we would see the topic of poker blog content on our upcoming exam. He got the point across, but made for a boring lecture. Reputation is good when it comes to writing poker content, but should not be overdone, less a snooze fest.

Better ways to make a point when writing poker content

Another college professor of mine had similar ideas. He wanted to tip us off that certain points in the lecture were testable, but he didn’t bother repeating himself verbatim. Instead, this professor would creatively emphasize the main points for testing purposes. He’d tap on the board while saying “This is a poker blog.” Sometimes, he would hit the podium while saying Poker content writing here.

Yet other times, he’d go so far as to stand on his desk while shouting:

Poker Blog – Content relating to poker coming through!

He commanded our attention, keeping the lecture interesting while doing a great job of stressing his points without being too redundant.

Know your audience – write to them

Many of us poker content writers repeat for the sake of search engine recognition. We want the search engines to know that when they come to the Poker Pub, they will find content relating to poker. We over repeat ourselves so that the spiders can figure it out. Trust me – even though my biggest incoming link is anchored JustHere4theBeer, the spiders all know I am blogging on poker (and sometimes beer).

Leave the search engine content tweaking to the Meta tags. When you write your articles, write to the live audience, stress your point – repeat as often as necessary without overdoing it – let the Meta tags address the spiders and search engine readers. I might add, however, there is nothing wrong with occasionally throwing in a twist or angle to persuade search engines to notice you for something extra. As I said, I am writing Poker Content in the confines of this Poker Article.

My audience at this moment is mostly poker content writers and poker webmasters. This is not my targeted audience, but currently, my main audience is said crowd. With that in mind, I am discussing poker content writing to cater to my audience.

My poker strategy articles target my intended audience, which is the online and live poker players looking to better their game by reading and discussing poker strategy. Eventually they will find me, and I too will find them. Until then, I mix it up with poker blog content targeting my ideal audience – poker players‘ interest, while reaching out to touch base with my current poker content provider audience. Doing so may help me keep the attention of the poker writer community as well as help me to reach online poker players and live poker players alike.

Poker content conclusion

If you have kept your eyes open throughout the course of this article, you’ve hopefully taken away the following:

Write poker content to your intended audience

Do not neglect your actual audience while writing about poker

Stress main ideas in your poker blogs content, but don’t overdo it

Use Meta data to help search engines figure out you are writing poker strategy

Summarize – add an extra idea, ask for discussion, feedback or recognition

Choose a topic, communicate, expand on the idea, and leave a final added “gold poker chip” of information. Unrelated, multi-topic posts on poker are far more effective and will reach more poker blog readers as two separate posts than they are as an uber-poker-blog-post (iggy is exempt from this gold chip of advice). If you enjoyed or benefited from this article, please bookmark it, link to it, give me feedback, comment, phone a friend – get the word out for the Poker Pub Poker Blog.

I need to set a priority list, and stick to it. I need to achieve focus now... if I don't get my act together here, I'm dead in the water...

Prioritize to optimize

Over the past month, I’ve found myself consumed in the Online Poker Circuit. In addition to the Poker Pub, I find myself tasked with building maintaining the entire Online Poker Circuit website. A few months earlier, I knew absolutely nothing about HTML. Actually, that’s not accurate, I knew very little about web page design. The Rayz site had “little brother” to assist in the design phase. This time around, I’m a 1 man show.

I found myself scrambling around the Internet in search of HTML guides, researching the application of CSS, trying to figure out how to import my entire poker blog, while additionally still trying to figure out how I can 301 the old Poker Pub. Did I mention marketing yet? I didn’t think I did. Nor did I mention keyword focus, a linking strategy, or anything of those sorts.

I guess it wouldn’t too be bad if it was just one poker project I undertook. One could argue that the multiple projects thing is my own personal choice – to which I totally agree. In addition to the Online Poker Circuit website, I’m currently working on two poker projects, one of which is huge that I won’t be ready to reveal for a few weeks or so.

I find myself consumed, sometimes even drowning. My priorities are scattered at best. I don’t like the fact that I have focus issues at the moment. I get up in the morning, I think I know what direction I’m going for that day, and by 7am, I find myself going way off the grid. The “off the grid” work is useful, it just was not what the plan of the day called for – and its driving me nuts. I need to channel that focus, I need to prioritize. I run optimally when I have focus, a set of working priorities. I can still adjust when I have to (i.e. – going off the grid and getting sidetracked momentarily). I truly believe, with as full as the plate is, I have to commit myself to a set list of priorities to optimize my efforts as a poker webmaster. As of now, I have none of that. Here’s what I need to do:

Construct a database for the big “poker project.” This is yet another “I know nothing about…” Totally unfamilliar territory, in which I’ve been putting off. It NEEDS done. The “death star” cannot achieve “fully operational” status without this database in place.

Organize all poker pages to have a logical and targeted flow. I’m on the inside, and even I can see that there’s little logic behind the organization of my websites. Part of this is the learning curve, another is because this site is a reincarnation of sorts for the Rayz site, which was tremendously unfocused.

Optimize all poker pages to have central themes. I find myself targeting too many things with too few pages. I need to scale back and narrow my focus on any given page. If I need to change the page’s focus, I would be best served making a new page, as opposed to undergoing a topic change mid page. To assist me in this, I think I’ll be better able to focus my themes if I make a slight adjustment to the website menu. That way I can go with a theme, sub-theme tactic that will help me both optimize and focus.

Develop and implement an effective overall marketing strategy. This surely should have came first. I am totally absent a marketing strategy, let alone an effective strategy. I’m currently all over the place, and to me it shows. I’ve done my best to ignore this fact and to compensate. There’s no avoiding it and no compensation will help matters. Developing and executing upon a smart marketing strategy ASAP is of paramount importance to my success. I need to work regularly on my marketing plan, though it would help if I first define said plan. Each day, I need to have tasks, goals, and measure the results – while being brutally honest with myself in said measurements. I need to be able to evaluate, adjust, and rework my plan on the fly. I can’t do any of that without having a plan in place.

I haven’t even mentioned carving out time to play poker, which I’ve grossly failed to do. I could count on one hand the number of poker sessions I’ve put in over the past month. This coming from someone who was averaging 45+ hours a week of poker play.

I find myself getting busier and busier by the day. In writing on this topic, I’m forcing myself to take a good hard look at my direction, in hopes that the bell will sound, and I’ll pull it together. I need to set a priority list, and stick to it. I need to achieve focus now… if I don’t get my act together here, I’m dead in the water… Comments and feedback are greatly appreciated.

Poker Blog reborn

For starters, I’d like to welcome everyone – OPC members (both of new and the “old salts” relocating from the old “Rayz Leaderboard” days (sweet, sweet memories)… Also, a shout out to my fellow former BPT’ers, all past, present and future Poker Pubbers, and everyone else out there – welcome to the new home of the Poker Pub.

It’s been a while (WELL over a year) since my last post of substance. Today, I’m here to say that the Poker Pub is open for business – beer flowing, posts writing, chips flying. Given this is my first substantial post, let’s set the expectations now…

First, some changes you’ll notice for Poker Pub v3.1:

1. I intend to use speel chek spell check. In Pub 1.0, spell check was grossly under utilized never used,

2. I intend to proofread my posts.

3. This incarnation of the Poker Pub will be more about strategy and providing editorial commentary on all things poker and less about pimping (I’ll leave the OPC News Blog and the OPC Forum for such things).

Poker Pub future contents

1. What the hell I’ve been doing for the last two or so years,

2. Extensive strategy discussion (i.e. – more on the popular endgame series),

3. A possible return of the Friday Night Mailbag,

4. (Long overdue) Stories from Australia,

5. Stories from the felt.

Poker Blog expectations

1. At least two substantial posts per week,

2. Informative, entertaining posts,

3. The opportunity to guide and influence my posting plans (i.e. – suggest a topic of interest),

4. An updated, semi-edited archive (over time) from the original Poker Pub (I’ve had issues importing the original Poker Pub Blog here. Thankfully, I had played around with the idea of relocation of the Pub to a WordPress platform back in 2006, and utilized that to get a foundation).

Why the Online Poker Circuit and not the old Rayz site?

The OPC brand, in my opinion, provides me with a better name/theme to support my vision. I’ll get into the vision of the OPC in a later post. Rayz, in reflection, was to gimmicky. I’m all for gimmicks, however, this time around, I want the mission, the vision, and the execution to all be transparent. The OPC name and brand allows for such a thing, in my opinion. Additionally, breaking free from the Rayz domain also symbolizes a fresh start, a new beginning if you will.

In closing, the thing I missed the most during my extended absence was writing. Writing has always helped me blow off steam, reflect, and situate or even organize my thoughts. Rest assured, my thoughts are far from organized! I look forward to writing more and becoming reacquainted with my old friends and making some new ones as well!

As you may have noticed from my post yesterday, I’m pondering a move of this blog in the very near future. I’m playing around with some new looks and features for the remodeled Poker Pub. I do admit, though, that the new site is not going to be the final site. That being said, I will continue to blog here and then post to the new site. I do, however, plan to use the word press software platform, so it makes sense to post to that site for that reason alone. My ultimate plan is to have the CheckRayz Leaderboard Poker Tour website, and the Poker Pub on the same server. There’s many reasons to do such a thing, though I admit selfishness and convenience are the two most compelling reasons.

Ok now that is out of the way, and taking into consideration I did not do a mailbag this week, in protest to the gambling legislation being pushed through our government, I bring you the ever so lengthy, lacking flow email response to CheckRayz MVP Bob (BC5457). As a side note, I am posting this today, because I feel it would be helpful to those compelled to play in the CheckRayz heads up poker tournament at Celeb Poker. Registration for the tournament opens tommorrow at 10pm.

Bob writes: Mike I need help in heads up play. I can hang around the final table, but heads up I need help. If you can give any advice or point me in the right direction I would be very thankful.

Thanks Bob

I respond (after taking a deep breath): Playing heads up is more of an “art form” and less of a science. I compare general poker play to telling a story or painting a picture. Heads up play, I look at more so as a puzzle. To piece together a puzzle of how successful heads up play can work, I’ll first talk about play at a full table, and then break down to a short-handed table, then finally to heads up play, as this is a natural progression. At a full (9-10 person table), the tight aggressive player (TAG), who respects “position” has the clear tactical advantage. The TAG player understands his starting hand selection, plays the hand hard, and often wins without showdown – usually, the earlier he acts the more of a monster he has. He of course, slightly relaxes his hand selection as he moves to later positions. He has a clear advantage at a full table simply because he is more selective in the hands he plays, and often when he shows down, he has the best hand at showdown, or clearly had the better hand preflop.

As the table shortens, the semi-loose aggressive player begins to take charge as the most profitable player at the table over time. He too throws chips with a vengeance and respects position. However, he recognizes that as the table shortens, there is less of a chance that people have a hand that is better than his preflop. He is willing to play hands normally suitable for middle position on full tables when first to act, and will often raise with two playable cards from the late positions. He recognizes that the blinds are coming around quicker, so he must see more flops and/or steal more often in order to maintain and grow his chip count. Quite often, you’ll see him raise his connectors, and limp with his monsters when he’s acting late. A successful semi-loose aggressive player completely understands how his hand best plays (heads up, or multi-way) and will often win pots that the flop totally missed him (and everyone else involved in the hand).

This type of player, the semi-loose aggressive types, stands the best chance of converting from short handed play to heads up play in a given tournament. Throughout the average tournament, he’s “tight enough” that he’s not in donk territory, but loose enough that he can relate to the mind of a donk, providing he survives the initial stage of a tournament. Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe the Tight Aggressive Approach is the best overall posture to maintain at the poker tables, but its exactly that… a base posture.

By nature, I am a tight aggressive player. As a tournament gets closer to the end stages, or the end game, I “evolve” into a semi-loose aggressive player. I relax my standards as we approach the bubble (in general, not taking into account chip count or “M calculation”). When we reach heads up play, its safe to assume I am as close to a donk as I can possibly be.

When playing heads up, the “smart” Loose aggressive playing style is best suited to be a successful heads up playa. Every hand you play is heads up here. So this begs a few questions. First, what hands are playable? And as a follow-up, how does one deal with the “problem” of holding a nice multi-way hand, but only having one opponent to play it against.

So, first thing’s first. Heads up, any two “playable” cards are in fact playable. I’ll typically play any hand without a two or three, but containing one high card (i.e. – A4offsuit and above, K-5off and above, Q7off and above, Jack-eight and up). Any two suited cards are playable as well (even the two three suited). Additionally, any pocket pair is playable.

Typically, I mix my play up, making it damn near impossible for a player to get a solid read on me. At the same time, I am trying my best to get a read on my opposition. I’m “keeping score” to understand what the minimal action I can throw to get him to fold is. Often, you’ll find that a combination of a preflop raise, followed by a continuation bet on the flop is sufficient to fold someone up, or a preflop raise, check on the flop, bet out on the turn (the old stop and go play) will entice a fold. I’m always making notes as to what will entice a fold, as well as to how the opponent is responding to my aggression or lack of it. I try to vary this though, so as to not become predictable myself.

Once again, not taking chip count into consideration, I mix up my plays preflop. If I have a playable hand, I’ll randomly limp, raise min., raise two, three, four, five times the blinds. I’ll randomly continue the bet on the flop, or reraise. I keep in mind that I am not only betting my hand, but also betting against his hand.

When in the big blind, I will often raise if he limps, to see how he responds. I’m testing him here as well, to see if he’ll limp/fold. If he does, then I know that I can more often than not push him off the pot with this move. Additionally, I am discouraging him from playing hands he’s not comfortable playing to a raise (limiting his hand range, making it an easier read for me). He’ll end up folding uncontested more often than not, if he feels I am going to raise it, which gives me more chips without a fight, and the insight that he’s only playing hands that have some quality to them. This tells me that when he does limp/call, I might have to improve on the flop to continue, and will definitely need to improve on the turn/river if he calls my continuation bet.

When I am playing out of the small blind, is he raising me? Will he fold to a raise? How small of a raise is likely to fold him up? All these things I am mentally noting. I enjoy having a feel for what the least common denominator is to get someone to fold up and go home. Keep in mind, my “random actions” are very deliberate in purpose — confusing the opposition, encouraging folding, and putting together a puzzle piece by piece, working different areas of the puzzle at once. I’ll work the top left portion of the puzzle for a little bit, then break off and string together a few pieces in the middle, or on the bottom, then move onto the next part where I see two-three pieces that can fit and help me to come closer to the conclusion – putting together the entire thing, making it into a full picture.

As for the next “problem” how does one play hands “correctly” heads up when they fair better multi-way? There’s no easy answer to this question. As a basic rule, you “could” put in a raise with the multi-way hands (7-6offsuit, for example). If called, this will give you better odds to draw. However, the problem becomes, you cannot always raise 7-6offsuit and never raise AA. This also makes you too predictable. I just come to understand what kind of hand I have, how it best plays, and then randomly decide what I am doing (random is the key word). I know that if holding seven six, and the flop misses me, I either have to steal the pot between now and showdown, or will have to improve to win at showdown (even if 2-3-3 hits the board and I’m confident it missed my opposition as well, I KNOW that if I showdown and the board misses us both to the river, I do not have the best hand with 7-6 off). So in this portion, knowing what kind of hand you have, and how it will hold up based on hitting the board, missing the board, or both you and the opponent hitting the board is of paramount importance. People are more likely to call a raise or raise themselves with ace seven, king seven than they are with queen or jack seven. This poses a potential problem if king-seven-two rainbowed hits the board, and less of a problem if jack seven two hits. The board with the king/ace is likely to have hit you both, maybe even giving him two pair. I typically grasp how my hand ranks based on what “story I have told” this hand and the few hands before… or more specifically, what parts of my puzzle have I been working on.

Finally, from a chip stack standpoint, I’m keeping score of the percentage of chips in my possession and also how much the blinds cut into him per hand. If I have the stack, and the blinds are costly (blinds 100-200, I have 3000 chips, he has 1000 chips), I’m typically raising to 1000 if I’m playing, espcially when I am in the big blind and he’s limped incorrectly. Doing this sends the clear message he has one hand to get it right. Besides, he’s probably allin on the flop anyways, so I might as well make him decide how strong his hand is now, as opposed to letting him make me decide on the flop. If I’m on the other end of the spectrum, and have 1000 chips, with blinds 100-200, I’m in allin or fold mode, being content with stealing, but accepting that I have great implied odds of him either folding or doubling me up.

In conclusion, I relax my hand standards, make my play appear totally random… keeping the pressure on, and all the while, I am putting together my puzzle. I hope this helps you out. I’m planning to blog on heads up on Tuesday on the Poker Pub, including a lot of the above, as well as Harrington’s take on heads up play. Let me know if you have any further questions, concerns or ideas… or if anything above needs further clarified, explained or expanded on. Thanks again for supporting the tour.

Talk to you soon,

Mike

A wise person once said "when all else fails, destroy any and all evidence you've even tried."

A wise person once said “when all else fails, destroy any and all evidence you’ve even tried.” That’s how I feel about today’s post. Do I “have to” post every day? Nah… I don’t. I have, however, got into the habit of making blog posts daily during the week, and typically at the very least one or two days of the weekend. By writing today, I am writing to maintain my disciplined schedule of posting, not to be confused with writing “out of obligation.”

I actually started a post three different times, all on poker strategy. I wasn’t “feeling it,” so I just deleted the posts (hence destroying the evidence). I cannot personally give anyone anything I feel is worth reading today. However… I can “pimp” other peeps posts (recent and historical), in hopes of not only giving my regular readers some worthwhile material, but also perhaps putting them on to some quality bloggage.

For starters, if there was one blog post I’ve read that has changed my life both on and off the tables, it is this post by Felicia on Personal Responisibility and Poker. This was one of the few posts I’ve read and had a major shift in overall Philosophy. I’m not going to go into details or summarize her post for her, as she worded it perfectly already – see for yourself. I will say though, that this post marked the day that my ass quit getting chapped when someone such as SuperDonk made a call that was outrageously poor. Both the content and the context of her entry really really hit home. I recommend this article she wrote to everyone, poker players or not. She is “the” must read in my blogger library.

Probably the funniest of blogs I read is the Donkey Manifesto. These bloggers don’t really update often, but when they do post, they make it well worth the wait. I strongly suspect that one cannot possibly come up with priceless material such as this post on the bad play of the day or the defective $20 dollar comp, or the donking time machine on a regular basis. Go through the archives on this one, lots of great… and absolutely hilarious stories, cutting edge interviews asking the tough questions that the Daily Show won’t even ask.

Slipping away from bloggage for a second, I had mentioned that I’d talk playing the AK. Instead of discussing it personally, (my communication skills are lacking today), I’ll link ya to the shark forum, where we discussed playing the AK.

Back to bloggage. Is online poker rigged? Find out here, and here.

Finally, Haley had some quality bloggage on the blogger community both here and here (once again, note the lack of “skills” i use by describing the links as “here and here”… told ya its an off day 4 me). No seriously, I just started reading Haley’s blog this past week, as I had discovered her work through the blogger poker tour. She and I were on the same page regarding some of the “blogs” participating or trying to participate in the tour. Through her writings, and via a brief discussion or two on the table in the BPT event, I strongly suspect she has a lot to offer the poker community. Thus, “shoutin’ out” to her, and sending “mad props”.

Hopefully, tomorrow I’ll feel it a bit more in the creativity department. Until then…

Mike
