Online Poker Circuit Blog – The Poker Pub

The online literary works of the biggest name in the Blogger Poker Tour – imjusthere4thebeer.  Now the official blogger for the Online Poker Circuit, his original work set the stage for the Rayz website, some live poker projects, and later the Online Poker Circuit.

The Online Poker Circuit is proud to have imjusthere4thebeer, the drunken poker player as their official poker blogger.

A bit of Poker Pub History

The original Poker Pub Poker Blog was started in October 2005 using Blogger.  It relocated to WordPress, however the relocation project never took off.  It could have been that I got drunk and thought moving the Poker Pub was a great idea, which didn’t seem like such a good idea when I sobered up – a year later…  I could have got straight up lazy, or I couldn’t figure out how to pull off the 301 redirect from Blogger to WordPress.  Any or all of those stories may fit the bill.

The old school “poker-pubbers” (the unofficial official nickname given to those who frequented the Poker Pub regularly) may recall that the Poker Pub of old originated right around the time the Rayz site rolled out.  That was nothing more than a coincidence.  The reality is the poker blog was started before the Rayz site was conjured.  I have to admit though, the fact that it took nearly forever to get Rayz launched was key to the Poker Pub’s survival early on.  Had I had something else to occupy my time, I’d not have fell into the habit of posting regularly.

Blogger Poker Tour – Australia bound for the Aussie Millions

Moving through the history of the Poker Pub, it became a main focal point of the Blogger Poker Tour.  The Poker Pub really embraced the whole BPT concept.  It was during this time frame where the Poker Pub truly joined the blogging community.  Eventually, I traveled to Australia to cover the Aussie Millions as a result of my dedication and promotional efforts in the BPT.

It was in Melbourne where I had the honor of meeting several big names in poker, such as Aussie Millions main event winner Gus Hansen, as well as Phil Ivey, and Daniel Negreanu, and Andrew Black – all of which I had the opportunity to informally chat with.

I also had the honor of meeting & having a drink with the person who is the biggest name in poker tournament coverage online, Dr Pauly from The Tao of Poker.  Additionally, I was honored to have met Jimmy Fricke.  “Gobboboy” and my experiences at the Aussie Millions helped accelerate the curve of my understanding tournament poker.

UIGEA and prohibition

Upon return from the OZ, the original Poker Pub died out.  In part, UIGEA and its effects had kicked my ass.  Many of the online poker rooms the Poker Pub and Rayz worked with pulled out of the US Market, which made it somewhat challenging to keep the lights on at the Poker Pub and the Rayz site.  Additionally, for some reason I went into an extended period of writer’s block.  That may have also been tied to UIGEA, it could have been due to my eyes being opened at the Millions.  It could have been that my creative brain power was rerouted to focus on a few live projects I was working on during that timeframe.  Whatever the reason, Rayz and the Poker Pub had the power shut off.

Poker Pub is back and better than ever

Roughly two years later, the lights came back on.  The Poker Pub opened up.  Remodeled and relocated I now find myself a part of The Online Poker Circuit.  The timing in terms of my live projects was right, though by no choice of my own (I may someday elaborate on this).  Additionally, from a UIGEA standpoint, it made sense to get the ball rolling once again.  No, UIGEA has not been overturned, it has however been further defined.

Poker Pub’s future?

That is the question…  now that the Poker Pub is open once again, where do we go from here?  Well, from a Poker Pub perspective, you can expect a good dose of poker strategy discussion, as well as general commentary on poker, and my usual rants.  What you’ll find this time around is a lot less “selling” and a great deal more “content.”  The selling will be reserved for my other sales oriented tools.  I may sneak a pitch or two in the confines of my post, but the days of the Poker Pub being straight up commercialized are behind me.  I am available for hire, be it an online tournament, coverage of a live poker tournament, or to review a poker product or service.

Contact me / Hire me

That being said…  I guess just keep reading if you’re interested in where the Poker Pub is heading.  Oh, and feel free to contact me anytime – imjusthere4thebeer.  I hope you enjoy your time at the new home of The Poker Pub Poker Blog.

I’m also available for freelance writing work, as well as to provide online or live poker event coverage. Trust me, these days I’m a cheap date – it will be worth your while.
