Poker tournament keys to success

I am often asked, “BeerGuy,” what are the keys to winning a poker tournament?  I could go on for hours, days, maybe even a lifetime discussing what I believe are the keys to winning a poker tournament.  I believe though, that when I am asked that question, people are wanting a simple answer.  Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple if you’re seeking a true answer.

While there are many keys to success in winning poker tournaments, there are many that are just simply beyond our control.  Luck, distribution and timing of getting cards, table and seating assignments (to name a few) – none of these factor are within our realm of control.

We can, however, control several factors that I will call my keys to winning a poker tournament.

BeerGuy’s Keys to Winning a Poker Tournament

1. Knowledge of the poker tournament’s structure.
2. Knowledge of each opposing player’s tendencies.
3. Wisdom to identify the proper time and place to push or fold.
4. Courage to execute on your knowledge and wisdom.
5. Discipline to stay the course and adjust as necessary (stay off tilt).
